About Old Military Road
Essex County Department of Public Works is finalizing the design for the reconstruction of Old Military Road (Phase I) from west of the intersection with Carolyn Road to east of Averyville Station Road. The project is being funded under the New York State Transportation Improvement Program. As a result, 80% federal, 15% state, and 5% county funds will be utilized for this project. The current estimated construction cost is $6.5 million. Construction is anticipated to begin later this year.
The original project schedule has been impacted and delayed by various permitting requirements of the APA, Army Corps. of Engineers and NYSDEC.
The project is also in the final stages of significant property acquisitions with the various impacted property owners within the project limits.
Phase II of the project, Averyville Station Road to John Brown Road (southern connection) is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
Essex County Department of Public Works is administering the project with NYSDOT oversight.
