Substructure
Repairs
to the Mid Hudson and Newburgh Beacon Bridges over
the Hudson River
For these two major Hudson
River crossings, Foit-Albert Associates
designed various substructure repairs. The main bridge at
the Newburgh-Beacon facility consists
of side-by-side, 14-span, continuous deck and through truss
structures totaling 6,870-feet as well as girder approach
spans. The Mid-Hudson
Bridge consists of a 3,000-foot long suspension bridge and
a 1,200-foot long east approach viaduct.
Work involved conducting a field survey of both bridge facilities
after reviewing available annual inspection reports for current substructure
deficiencies and outstanding work items. From the field survey, a
proposed work listing was formulated and reviewed with the Authority.
Complete contract documents were then fully developed depicting all
concrete repairs, notes, and maintenance of traffic schemes (including
coordination with NYSDOT and NYSTA).
