The Hultquist
Center
The Hultquist
Center for Continuing Studies was originally built as the
Chautauquan and Assembly Herald Building (c. 1889). The
present restored building provides exhibition space, classrooms,
and conference space to support the central tenet of the
Institution's mission of lifelong learning and spiritual
growth. To achieve
this, Foit-Albert Associates provided the following services:
Adaptive Reuse for New Function
• Provision of 2400 sq. ft. of classroom/conference space
using existing space with provisions made to maximize flexibility
through the use of moveable walls.
• Inclusion of New Build of Contemporary Need.
• The coupling of two stand-alone building sections with
the insertion of double height lobby featuring a sheer glass
entry elevation moderating adjacent historic building elements.
Restoration
• Restoration of historic covered porch areas previously
modified as an enclosed porch to provide interior space.
• Repair and restoration of shingle siding and wood columns
and trim.
Technologies
• Design of a complete foundation system to replace a rudimentary
and deteriorated "system" of wooden piers.
• Replacement of all site utilities and mechanical, electrical,
and plumbing equipment.
