Grant Hill Road Bridge APA AwardGrant Hill Road project receives award

Foit-Albert Associates was recognized by the American Public Works Association, Capital Branch, in the Structures <$5M category. Foit-Albert was the Primary Consultant for the Replacement of Grant Hill Road Bridge over the Normans Kill. Foit-Albert representatives received the award at the APA banquet in February.



St. John TownhomesFoit-Albert Associates' Designed Townhomes Unveiled

Representatives from St. John Baptist Church, state and local officials and renters held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Foit-Albert designed two-, three- and four-bedroom town homes that were built in the Fruit Belt neighborhood which is adjacent to the growing Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus in the City of Buffalo. This Phase II, $15 million project, consists of 49 units on 17 scattered sites in the Fruit Belt neighborhood. The new housing complements the existing urban neighborhood and offers amenities including attractive, low-maintenance brick siding, front porches, gable end facades, ample unit storage and on-site parking.

The project was submitted and awarded funding from the New York State Department of Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR) for utilizing Green Building Initiative credits.

Foit-Albert Associates gains certification as MBE and DBE

Foit-Albert Associates, Architecture, Engineering and Surveying, P.C. is pleased to announce that the firm has been certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) by The New York State Department of Economic Development, Division of Minority and Women's Business Development (DMWBD) and a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, a Certifying Partner in the New York State Unified Certification Program (NYSUCP).

Since the retirement of founder Beverly Foit-Albert in May 2014, Gregory Carballada is President and majority owner. In addition to Mr. Carballada, the ownership group consists of Jack Robson, Executive Vice President; and Michael Pohl, Vice President. "I am pleased by our new status and look forward to the opportunities that come with these certifications," said Carballada.

The mission of the DMWBD is to promote equality of economic opportunities for MWBEs and to eliminate barriers to their participation in state contracts. With its certification as a DBE, the firm is eligible to participate as a DBE on Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, New York State Department of Transportation and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey assisted projects.

Grant Hill Road Bridge Ribbon CuttingGrant Hill Road Opens

Local officials and Foit-Albert Executive Vice President, Jack Robson, gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Grant Hill Road Bridge in Guilderland, NY. The bridge, which had been closed since 2013, officially opened on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy was very pleased with the long-awaited new bridge, which will benefit motorists, bikers and runners.


Jerry SentzGerard J. Sentz, PE, joins Foit-Albert Associates

Gerard J. Sentz has been named Vice President - Engineering at Foit-Albert Associates, Architecture, Engineering & Surveying, P.C.

Mr. Sentz joins Foit-Albert with over 30 years of engineering experience in both public and private practice. Jerry is responsible for coordinating all engineering staff to assure that clients are given the best uniform service and product. He will assist in business development and corporate decision-making.

Jerry earned his Master and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Civil Engineering from State University of New York at Buffalo and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He has received many awards throughout his career from professional societies including National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers and American Public Works and from various Who's Who of Business Leaders. He also has authored several articles in popular technical magazines. Sentz is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Public Works Association.

Gwen HowardGwen Howard Named Vice President

Gwen A. Howard has been named Vice President - Architecture at Foit-Albert Associates, Architecture, Engineering & Surveying, P.C.

Ms. Howard, most recently Senior Project Manager of Architecture, has been with Foit-Albert for fifteen years and has over twenty-five years' experience in areas of rehabilitation, historic preservation, education and cultural projects. She has been involved in numerous successful projects including Allendale Theatre, Aspire Community Health Center, numerous public schools, Lancaster Police & Courts Facility and the Buffalo Zoo, including the South American Rain Forest Exhibit, the Buffalo Zoo Entry and Gift Shop, and the much anticipated new home for Luna and Kali, the Arctic Edge Polar Bear Exhibit, projected to be complete in the Fall of 2015.

"There is such growth and progress in New York State, with investment, development and interest in our state as both a tourist destination and business hub. I am excited to help move forward as part of the next generation at Foit-Albert."

Ms. Howard holds a Master of Architecture degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, is LEED certified, and is a certified New York State Code Enforcement Official. She sits as a member of the City of Buffalo Preservation Board, Chair of the YWCA of Western New York Board of Directors and on the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Council.

Buffalo Zoo Entry ComplexBrick By Brick Award

Foit-Albert Associates is proud to be honored as the winner of the 2014 "Best Retail" Brick By Brick Award for our design of the Buffalo Zoo Entry Complex. Project Manager/Architect, Gwen Howard, Buffalo Zoo Retail Manager, Jeff Blarr, and Tracie Skretny from KMSSA, Operator of the Gift Shop, received the award during a ceremoney on June 9th.



Jason CiurzynskiCongratulations to Foit-Albert's Jason Ciurzynski. PE, for successfully completing his Professional Engineering licensing exam and earning his Pennslyvania professional engineering license. Jason has been with the firm since 2007 and has been provding engineering design services as well as bridge and culvert inspection. Jason earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology and his MBA from Canisius College.




Bobby BouzinekisCongratulations to Foit-Albert's Bobby Bouzinekis, RA, for successfully completing his Architect Registration Exam and earning his Washington State architecture license. Bobby has been with the firm since 2013 and has been working on the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences building project. Bobby earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Washington State University.




Town of Lancaster Police and CourtsNew Police Station and Courthouse

Foit-Albert Associates is proud to announce the completion of the Police Station and Courthouse in the Town of Lancaster, New York. The 26,000 square foot building is home to the town 911 dispatch, police officers, holding center, courts, a campus-based tactical training firing range, as well as evidence storage and processing. This new facility will help law enforcement continue to provide safety and support to Lancaster's more than 41,600 residents.

"Foit-Albert is pleased to have worked so closely with the dedicated Lancaster project team to complete this new, much needed facility for the Town. Their new offices allow for improved functions for the citizens in a building everyone can be proud of," said Gwen Howard, Project Manager.

The architectural design made use of colored masonry units to provide the building with durability and security. Well positioned metal panels were also used to maximize visual impact and reduce cost. Site and civil engineering work also played a role in completing the project, including design of pavement, secured parking with fencing and gates, site grading, and water systems.

Buffalo Zoo Arctic Edge GroundbreakingBuffalo Zoo Arctic Edge Exhibit Groundbreaking

Buffalo Zoo representatives, along with State and local dignitaries, broke ground on the new Buffalo Zoo Arctic Edge Exhibit. Foit-Albert is proud to be the local architect for this project. The 1.5 acre exhibit will feature two large polar bear habitats with underwater viewing. The Arctic Edge exhibit will also house arctic wolves, Canadian lynx, and American bald eagles.The habitats have been designed to replicate the climate of the Arctic Circle using naturalistic landscapes, boulders, and natural substrates. Arctic Edge is slated to open in fall 2015.



David MarcouxCongratulations to Foit-Albert's David Marcoux, RA, for successfully completing New York State's Architect Registration Exam. David has been with the firm since 2012 and has been working on the Buffalo Zoo Arctic Edge Exhibit. David earned his Bachelor of Science, Architecture and Masters of Architecture degress from the University at Buffalo.





Bonnie Foit-AlbertFoit-Albert founder and CEO Beverly (Bonnie) Foit-Albert was interviewed for Daybreak Productions "Building a Basilica." This well-received documentary was aired on ABC television stations nationwide in January 2014.
