Reconstruction of Old Military Road

This project proposes to improve the roadway geometry by eliminating sub-standard features along Old Military Road, from its intersection with NYS Route 86 (northern end) to John Brown Road (southern end). Numerous sub-standard features are present within the project limits, resulting in limited sight distance, which increases the potential for traffic accidents. Additionally, this project will provide a cost effective pavement treatment for a useful service life of 20 years, improve various intersections alignment with Old Military Road, replace the deteriorated structure over Chubb River with a new bridge that consists of pre-cast concrete box beam superstructure, concrete abutments and wingwalls; improve pedestrian access facilities along the east side of Old Military Road from Newman Rd. to Station St.; improve bicycle access accommodations; and provide drainage collection system within the project limits.

Reconstruction of the road includes replacing the existing pedestrian facility with new curbing and five foot wide concrete sidewalks along the east side of the road, from its intersection with the Olympic Training Center driveway to Station Street. Pedestrian crosswalks and other amenities will also be provided. The total length of the new pedestrian facility is approximately 1 mile.
